Boo's Passing and Fundraiser, Friday March 26, 2010
“It is with deep regret that I must inform you all that at 10:00am local time today (March 24, 2010) one of South East Asia’s finest sailors passed away", said ACYC Commodore Mick Kealy. While on a yacht delivery from Donsal to Phuket, Boo Meesuk fell seriously ill and was in hospital in Terengganu, Malaysia in a coma for two and a half weeks. Boo had been recovering well after contracting tuberculosis last July but came down with pneumonia while on the delivery trip. His good friend and fellow yachtsman Chandran was there throughout the time Boo was in hospital and brought Boo back to Phuket along with Boo's brother and fellow yachtsman Mark Pescott.
His sudden passing in his early 40's comes as a shock to those who knew him and those who knew of him. As Mick states, "Those of you who know Boo, know him... For those of you who don’t, well… he’s an institution in yachting around here and a remarkable character – not to mention a fully paid-up member of ACYC. Not many Thais in Phuket have taken to yachting seriously, but Boo is one of the exceptions. At one time or another, he has either crewed on, or delivered, most of the significant yachts around here.
