The Joanne Cooney Cup - Race Report 6 - Sunday October 30

Somtam Express sailing to victory

Race 6 of the Irish Times Series marked the Joanne Cooney Cup, which was dedicated to the memory of yachtswoman Jo Cooney - a long-standing and ardent supporter and active participant in Phuket's yachting scene.

The day saw five boats in Racing - Som Tam Express, Linda, Remington, Windstar and Dreamtime and two in Multihull - Moto Inzi and Miss Saigon - in a coastal course around Koh Lon that held good winds, some sunshine and, at this time of year, a heavy squall.

Som Tam Express took an early lead and finished well ahead of the other four monohulls. Linda was late starting due to a problem with the foresail but nevertheless caught up with the rest of the fleet to finish in second place.

Both the catamarans partcipated did not finish the race. Miss Saigon suffered damage and withdrew early on and Moto Inzi didn't complete the course correctly having missed a mark.
