Race Report 3 - Sunday May 8

ACYC Race 1, March 13, 2011
Sidewinder on an easy cruise to victory
Winds of roughly 15 knots set the fleet of six boats underway in Race 3 of the Victron Energy Series with a somewhat ambiguous start line that offered options at which boats could be positioned and cross at the designated 12pm time. Huh? Well, welcome to Sunday racing in Phuket!

The three available start lines offered choices for positioning with a reach up to the windward mark with most of the six boats hightailing it up under spinnaker. Take your pick! Leaving the committee boat to 'one possible starboard position', the first over the line was Iruvai in Cruising, which incidentally set out to avoid any errors: a 360 in the remaining minute of the countdown sequence took care of any possible penalties during the race! Sidewinder in Multihulls crossed on the same path shortly thereafter and soon took an early lead to finish the race with line honours well ahead of the fleet.

In Racing, it was Babe in her first race of the season that took victory over Linda while in Cruising, Iruvai placed first with Chetak second. Niña, the other catamaran sailing in Multihulls, placed first on handicap. A great show for only two on board!
