ACYC Club Sailing
Race Report 6 - Sunday June 19

ACYC Race 4, May 22, 2011
Minx, Niña, Linda and Chetak at the start
Sun and heavy winds made for an exciting and challenging day in Race 6 of the Victron Energy Series. For many, it was a tiring and wet ride with relief expressed to be back in the safety of the anchorage.

The 12pm start saw the fleet of seven crossing the line late with four boats vying for the lead position. Minx crossed first at the pin end of the line with Niña closely following. It was Linda and Chetak with Moto Inzi close behind while Silk Purse and Moya Hin, who was sailing without battens in the main, bringing up the rear. Moto Inzi soon took the lead and sped off, never to look back, taking line honours and victory in Multihulls.

A quick and wet race for the FireFly in choppy conditions, but one that wasn't without its difficulties. The prow broke under spinnaker on the leg from Koh Bon to the finish and with the failure of the engine to start, it was a tricky and nerve-wracking sail through the anchorage to pick up the mooring, an adventure witnessed by the crew of Silk Purse who had retired early to avoid breakages and were content to enjoy some well-deserved liquid libation in the anchorage.

Hot News! There's a job vacancy at ACYC! Commodore Grenville Fordham would like to relinquish his role as scorer, a move made after a screwup with the Racing results on Sunday. (Let's hope the Minx crew hasn't drunk the wine and will pass it to the crew of Linda!) So, if anyone is interested and wishes to step up to the computer on a Sunday afternoon...

Note: The next race, Race 7, is this Sunday the 26th.

If you need crew or would like to crew for ACYC races, check out 'Crew Wanted' and 'Crew Available' and submit your details.

See you on the water!
